The importance of the arts to society: Arts and Goverment

The arts has always been a way for people to express themselves. From the earliest cave paintings of hunters on horseback, to the modern-day graffiti that decorates our subway cars and underground trains, art is pervasive in society. The arts also help us as humans "to make sense of the world." It helps us understand other cultures and perspectives, it tells us stories about what we have done (and who we are), and it even provides an emotional outlet when times are tough. In some ways, artists can be seen as healers or protectors. They have saved lives by giving voice to those who would otherwise remain silent; they've helped communities recover from disasters by capturing their experiences through art; they've preserved memories before they're lost forever

What's the first recorded art?

The first recorded art dates back to the Upper Paleolithic era--roughly 40,000 years ago. Yes, you read that right! Art is an ancient form of expression and one that has been used for a variety of purposes: decoration, entertainment, spiritual significance (e.g., cave paintings), etc. Today we know quite well how art can be beneficial in bringing out emotions and enhancing our emotional intelligence or EQ.

How governments have used art in history?

What is the role of arts role in politics?

Art has played a central role in politics since time immemorial. In fact, the word "politics" comes from the ancient Greek words for city and managing: polis- politika. The use of art to communicate ideas dates back centuries, but it is no longer just about aesthetics - it's also used as propaganda towards various ends.

What are some dangers associated with governments influencing people using art?

Many governments have used the arts as a tool to control or influence society.

A few things that could go wrong when government's use art to influence its citizens is if they don't support all types of artistic expression e.g., politicians might disregard a certain type because it doesn't fit their agenda or narrative; another common issue is censorship which happens when a government decides not to show an exhibition due to controversial content either from local law enforcement agencies (e.g., the Tate Gallery in London) or government officials.

For example, during WWII, Hitler's Third Reich in Germany wanted to create an "Aryan" identity by using art and culture that was un-Jewish. They also censored any work of art that wasn't considered appropriate for their people like depictions of nudity or homosexuality. The Soviet Union under Stalin banned all forms of avant-garde and modernist styles from 1928 until 1934 because it represented Western elitists who they viewed as unfit influences on socialist realism which had become standard fare (and still is today).

What are some of the benefits associated with governments influencing people using art?

A few beneficial aspects that arise when a government uses artwork to influence its citizens would be if they use it for propaganda purposes like advertising and marketing campaigns, then there might be more funding allocated for arts programs and events which could go towards helping promote creativity among children; another example is if politicians commission an artist's work for public buildings such as schools or city halls, this can increase tourism because these pieces showcase different cultures through artistic mediums like dance, music, theatre!

How have governments helped the public by utilizing art?

The government has helped the public using art throughout the past by funding programs that help empowers artists and artisans. For example, the WPA created jobs for an estimated 700 000 unemployed people to do work in public buildings like schools, hospitals, libraries as well as roadside parks. They also funded programs such as easel painting courses after Roosevelt's wife Eleanor had noted that many unemployed were skilled at it but couldn't find the essential materials.

A few tactics Governments use to influence the masses with arts:

  • -Funding grants and scholarships for artists who apply.

  • -Sponsoring projects like the Olympics which showcases different cultures through art forms like dance, music, and theatre.

  • -Purchasing or commissioning pieces of artwork to hang in public places such as schools or city halls.

  • -Giving the public a voice during times of crisis

  • -Providing entertainment and enjoyment for citizens

  • -Teaching about their culture, even if it is through propaganda

  • -Encouraging unity among different groups in society

  • -Reinforcing norms/values that are important to the people as they see themselves

  • -Creating a cultural identity- either theirs or someone else's

  • -Connecting with other cultures

  • -Disseminating information

  • -Strengthening community bonds

  • -Demystifying power

  • -Challenging orthodoxy

  • -Being subversive

Artists using their work for social change:

In history, artists have cause major social change through their work. in the 20th century, many artists were involved in social activism through their art. Examples include Ai Weiwei and Frida Kahlo.

  • Ai Weiwei is a Chinese artist who was imprisoned by the government in 2011. He is most famous for his "Sunflower Seeds" installation, which consists of 100 million porcelain sunflower seeds scattered on the floor and outside in public spaces to represent how many people have been displaced from their homes as a result of China's construction projects such as dams and canals.

  • Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist that became well-known for her self-portraits. Her paintings often include images of herself suffering with physical injuries or illnesses along with strong symbolism related to life experiences, emotions, womanhood, motherhood, nature; all these things are common themes throughout her work.

one of my favorite political artists is Banksy, he is a British street artist who

is now considered a global artistic icon. His work often features social and political commentary, with his graffiti being made on walls or other public surfaces in order to be seen by the maximum number of people possible.

Banksy's art has influenced millions across the world, inspiring them to think critically about the world and take action. His art is a part of many people's lives, with them feeling like they have a personal connection or story that resonates with their own experience.

Arts can provide an outlet for creative expression which helps one gain perspective on life by giving voice to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety through artistic means; it also connects communities together from all walks of life so that no single person feels alone.

Artists are often at the frontlines of movements because they have a voice that resonates with people. Their artwork can help spread messages easily without any editorializing or censorship.

Recap:

The more we use our creativity, the better our emotional intelligence becomes- in turn making us smarter and healthier individuals who are able to succeed professionally as well as personally.

Artists speak truthfully without any censorship--they say what needs saying when there are few others willing to do so. The power of art is that it takes something intangible and breaks it down into pure emotion.
